HOW TO CARE FOR AGEING SKIN & REDUCE PREMATURE AGING

Lifestyle & sleep.

Maintaining an active lifestyle & limiting your exposure to pollution helps to minimize the oxidative stress your skin is subjected to. High quality sleep is particularly important in allowing the body to recover and repair itself.

Nutrition

A balanced, healthy diet, rich in fruits & vegetables, will ensure an intake of antioxidants that can help to limit the damaging effects of free radicals on the skin.  Foods high in antioxidants are, carrots, apricots, other yellow & orange fruit & vegetables, blueberries, leafy green vegetables, bell peppers, tomatoes, beans & other pulses, oily fish (such as salmon) & nuts.

 Smoking.

Stopping smoking will significantly reduce the amount of free radicals you expose your skin to. As well as improving your skins appearance.

Skin care

Daily skin care can ensure your skin stays healthy & in good condition. A basic skincare routine should consist of three steps, cleanse, care (replenish & hydrate your skin with products that address your primary ageing concern) & sun protection.

Retinol.

Not to be confused with retinoids, which is the umbrella term for all vitamin A compounds and derivatives. Retinol helps rejuvenate your skin by stimulating natural collagen production. It also speeds up skin cell turnover to reveal brighter newer skin.

Sun protection.

Protecting skin from the suns rays, even on cloudy days, is the most important step in preventing premature ageing. Choose a day cream with a high SPF 30 or even better 50.  For more intense exposure use a dedicated sun protection with a SPF 50.
